* How would you define Formative Assessment?


Formative Assessment revolves around activities we do in the class that feed us information we can use to enhance methodological approaches for the purposes of improving student learning.


* What was new or surprised you?


It would be helpful to teachers and students to know the previous academic performance of incoming students. (See p. 142 5th bullet) We greatly appreciate being given reading scores of our students this year.


* What are the implications for our work within collaborative groups?


In correlation with the points being made toward the bottom of the second column of page 142 we agree that this format of professional development in small collaborative groups is providing us with an increased level of professional respect. It is interesting to note that the louder the rhetoric about how great we as professionals and a school are, the poorer the working conditions and lower the staff moral become in reality. There seems to be a direct inverse correlation.

* What additional information do you need with respect to formative assessments?


We do not need additional information. It continues to be a need of resources.
